Le Président de la Transition porte la voix du Gabon à la sixième session de l'Assemblée des Nations Unies pour l'environnement (UNEA).
Nairobi, le 29 Février 2024, le Président de la Transition, Président de la République, Chef de l'État, le Général Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema a pris part ce jour à la plénière des Chefs d'État dans le cadre de la sixième session de l'Assemblée des Nations Unies pour l'environnement (UNEA- 6) qui se tient à Nairobi au Kenya du 26 février au 1er mars 2024.
Placée sous le thème « Des actions multilatérales efficaces, inclusives et durables pour lutter contre le changement climatique, la perte de biodiversité et la pollution », cette grand-messe qui a réuni les Chefs d'État et de gouvernement du monde entier, les experts de l'environnement, a été l'occasion pour les participants de mettre un accent sur le renforcement du multilatéralisme environnemental face à la triple crise planétaire qui concerne le changement climatique, la pollution et la perte de biodiversité.
Au cours de ces assises, les Chefs d'État ont partagé leurs expériences, proposé des solutions pour rétablir l'équilibre avec la nature, et envisagé des partenariats pour lutter contre les maux précités.
Durant ce sommet de haut niveau, le Président de la Transition a loué la vision politique de son homologue kenyan, SE William Ruto en matière de protection de l'environnement. Militant pour la sauvegarde de notre planète, le Chef de l'État a proposé un ensemble de solutions telles que la création des conditions pour la valorisation économique du capital naturel, la justice dans la gouvernance environnementale et la mobilisation générale des pays.
" Mobilisons-nous pour faire face ensemble aux défis de notre humanité menacée"’ a-t-il déclaré. Dans son allocution de circonstance, Son Excellence le Général Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema a par ailleurs rappelé les engagements environnementaux du Gabon depuis cinq décennies. Il s'agit entre autres de l'ordonnance relative à la lutte contre la pollution par le plastique à usage unique ; la création de 13 parcs nationaux couvrant 11% du territoire en 2002 ; la création en 2017 d'un réseau de 20 parcs marins et réserves aquatiques établis sur 26% des eaux territoriales du Gabon ; la protection des éléphants ainsi qu'un bilan carbone de plus de 100 millions de tonnes nettes de CO2.
Soulignons que l’Assemblée des Nations Unies pour l'environnement est l’organe décisionnel le plus élevé au monde en matière d'environnement. Il compte 193 États membres de l'ONU et organise des rencontres tous les deux ans en vue de définir les priorités des politiques environnementales mondiales et développer le droit international de l'environnement.
