Les trois individus lors de leur arrestation.
Dans le cadre d'une mission conjointe entre les agents de l'antenne de la Police Judiciaire de la Ngounié, de la Direction Provinciale des Eaux et Forêts et de la Direction de la Lutte Contre le Braconnage, appuyés par l'ONG Conservation Justice, une opération ciblée a été organisée dans un quartier de la ville de Mouila, le 09 février 2024.
En effet, cette opération a conduit à l'interpellation de deux individus dans un quartier de la ville de Mouila, en flagrant délit de détention et de tentative de commercialisation de six pointes d'ivoire.
Les présumés trafiquants ont été pris la main dans le sac en tentant de vendre lesdites pointes d'ivoire dissimulées dans un sac.
Lors des interrogatoires, les deux présumés trafiquants ont déclaré être des démarcheurs, affirmant que les pointes d'ivoire appartenaient à trois individus distincts.
Ils ont alors mentionné le nom d'un directeur d'une école de la ville comme étant le propriétaire de deux des six pointes saisies. Ce dernier a immédiatement été appréhendé par les agents de la Police Judiciaire.
S'appuyant sur les informations reçues, l'équipe de la Police Judiciaire s'est lancée dans une recherche active pour retrouver d'éventuels complices. Les présumés trafiquants ont reconnu avoir eu l'intention de vendre les défenses d'ivoire saisies.
Notons que conformément aux dispositions légales en vigueur au Gabon, les présumés trafiquants interpellés encourent une peine d'emprisonnement de 10 ans selon les articles 390 et 392 du code pénal, pour avoir détenu et tenter de vendre l'ivoire sans autorisation préalable de l'administration des Eaux et Forêts. Ces peines peuvent doubler dans les conditions prévues par l'article 396 du code pénal gabonais (cas de bande organisée).
Autant l'abattage des espèces intégralement protégées pour la protection des personnes et des biens est autorisé dans certaines conditions si les autorités compétentes sont informées rapidement, autant la commercialisation des ivoires reste illégale.
Actuellement, les trois présumés trafiquants d'ivoire sont en détention dans les locaux de la Police Judiciaire de Mouila, en attendant leur comparution devant le Procureur de la République.
