Les travaux de réhabilitation de la voie ferrée se poursuivent.
Malgré la suspension du trafic des trains de voyageurs, la Société d’Exploitation du Transgabonais (Setrag) poursuit le renouvellement de la voie ferrée pour atteindre sa restauration totale d’Owendo à Franceville.
La Setrag est l’entreprise de transport ferroviaire exploitant le réseau de chemin de fer gabonais. Elle assure principalement le transport des marchandises, des minerais, des grumes, des produits pétroliers et assure également le service public de voyageurs entre Owendo et Franceville. Bien que ce dernier service soit aujourd’hui momentanément suspendu, l’entreprise poursuit les travaux de mise à niveau de la voie.
Pour améliorer la sécurité du transport et mieux répondre aux attentes des usagers, les travaux du PRN, instaurés en accord avec les autorités gabonaises, visent la restauration durable de la capacité initiale de transport du chemin de fer.
A ce jour, près de 280 Kilomètres ont été renouvelés et cela en respectant les standards internationaux comprenant la fiabilité et la sécurité ferroviaire. La Setrag s’est engagée à achever ces travaux jusqu’à l’achèvement total du renouvellement de la ligne.
Il est à rappeler qu’avant l’acquisition du matériel de voyageurs en 2017, le réseau ferroviaire n’avait pas subi de travaux majeurs.
Sachant que le chemin de fer est un vecteur essentiel du développement et levier stratégique de la croissance positive économique de notre pays, le Gabon, la Setrag en accord avec l’Etat gabonais ont mis en place un vaste programme de remise à niveau de la voie lancé pour plusieurs années avec un investissement s’élevant à hauteur de 334 milliards de francs CFA dont 230 milliards consentis par la Setrag et les 104 autres milliards par l’Etat gabonais.
En effet, l’objectif final est la remise à niveau de l’infrastructure ferroviaire et la sécurisation du domaine ferroviaire au service de tous les clients voyageurs et frets.
Pour y parvenir, la Setrag entend répondre aux besoins et aux inquiétudes des populations gabonaises. Cela se résume à l’élimination des ruptures de rails, l’amélioration des temps de parcours des trains de voyageurs, la réduction du nombre des détresses des locomotives, du temps d’attente des trains en gare, la sécurité des passagers et des trains de marchandises.
