C’est un limogeage qui n’est en rien une surprise. En juin 2024, Liliane Massala quittera la tête de l’ambassade du Gabon en France pour être remplacée par Marie-Edith Tassyla-Ye-Doumbeneny qui, elle était jusqu’ici, ambassadeur du Gabon à Addis-Abeba. À Paris, renseigne Africa Intelligence, la nomination de la fille du Général Jean-Pierre Doumbeneny, a d'ores et déjà été validée au sein du ministère des Affaires Etrangères, auprès duquel sa candidature a été proposée début décembre par le Gabon.

La nomination, à la Chancellerie du Gabon à Paris (France) de Liliane Massala en conseil des ministres le jeudi 03 septembre avait pris plus d’un de court. Pour cause ? Liliane Massala était inconnue au bataillon diplomatique de notre pays. Sa nomination comme ambassadeur du Gabon en France avait été perçue comme « une imposture ». Une promotion injustifiée que d’aucuns assimilaient à un pied-de-nez dirigé contre les diplomates chevronnés que compte le Gabon pour un tel poste. Même si entre 1987 et 2012, elle a engrangé de l’expérience à la Présidence auprès d’Omar Bongo, puis son fils Ali, beaucoup doutaient de sa légitimité à exercer de telles fonctions.
Un itinéraire qui est tout le contraire de son successeur au poste. D’après le portrait brossé par Africa Intelligence, Marie-Edith Tassyla-Ye-Doumbeneny est une figure respectée du ministère des affaires étrangères gabonais, au sein duquel elle évolue depuis 2000, et dont elle a occupé la fonction de secrétaire générale au milieu des années 2010. Si elle a servi au plus haut niveau sous l'administration Bongo, comme représentante permanente auprès de l'Union africaine (UA), puis conseillère diplomatique du chef de l'État, elle a pris soin d'éviter de lier son destin à celui du clan Bongo. Marie-Edith Tassyla-Ye-Doumbeneny, par ailleurs nommée en janvier 2023 conseillère spéciale du chef de l'État d'alors, Ali Bongo, prendra ses fonctions en juin afin de préparer dans de bonnes conditions son départ d'Addis-Abeba.
