Dans une interview accordée au média Afrik Foot, l’international gabonais a passé au crible la situation du football gabonais aujourd’hui plongé dans l’inertie. Eric Moulengui n’y va pas de main morte en constatant le recul de cette discipline sportive tant à travers l’organisation du championnat national qu’à travers la dilapidation des moyens financiers.
« J’ose dire que la situation du football gabonais est dans un état lamentable voir même catastrophique. Je me rappelle d’où nous étions, même si nous étions amateurs. C’est le jour et la nuit. L'État gabonais est l’un de ceux en Afrique qui a mis le plus de moyens dans le football d’élite. Des moyens qui n’ont clairement pas été utilisés à bon escient pour différentes raisons. Ces derniers temps, le championnat est souvent arrêté et on évoque des salaires impayés. Mais auparavant, lorsque le gouvernement a commencé à mettre de l’argent dans le football local, l’argent était versé comme il fallait. Il y avait un cahier des charges qu’il fallait remplir quand on a voulu professionnaliser le football. »
Pour l’ex international, les clubs et la fédération gabonaise de football (Fegafoot) sont les premiers responsables de ce chaos : « Si notre football est aujourd’hui à l’arrêt, je dirais même qu’il n’existe pas sur le plan local, c’est dû à la mauvaise gestion des dirigeants du football gabonais, en commençant par la Fédération gabonaise de football et les clubs. »
Eric Moulengui va plus loin en accusant ouvertement les responsables de clubs d’avoir dilapidé les moyens financiers mis à leur disposition. « Malgré le versement de beaucoup d’argent dans ce football, cet argent n’a pas été utilisé pour profiter aux premiers acteurs qui sont les joueurs. Cela a profité à des dirigeants de clubs. La première chose, ça a été la mauvaise gestion de l’argent alloué par l'État de la part des clubs en tant qu’associations. L'État gabonais a finalement décidé de payer directement les joueurs. Le football gabonais était financé à 100% par le gouvernement du Gabon. Ce qui ne se fait pas ailleurs. »
