Une vue de l'atelier de sensibilisation.
Conscient du risque que peut générer la présence ainsi que la production de déchets sur la zone aéroportuaire, les responsables de l’Aéroport De Libreville (ADL) ont édifié le public sur l’approche mise en œuvre pour y faire face.
Ce 24 novembre, l’Aéroport De Libreville a lancé « Les journées réduction des déchets ». Il s’agissait d’un atelier de sensibilisation pour présenter l’étendue des risques que peuvent générer la prolifération des déchets au sein de l’espace aéroportuaire et les solutions à apporter pour y remédier.
Ces opérations ont été pilotées par M. Fakher ABDELKEFI, Responsable de la Supervision et Mme Pierra ASSENGONE épse OWONO ASSA, Responsable Environnement Social et Gouvernance. Avant d’entrer dans le vif du sujet, le décor a été planté par la lecture du mot de circonstance du Directeur Général d’ADL, M. Igor SIMARD. Lequel mot résonnait comme une invitation à l’endroit de ses collaborateurs sur la responsabilité collective envers l’environnement. Selon M. SIMARD « En tant qu’entreprise, nous avons le devoir de repenser nos pratiques afin de minimiser notre impact sur la planète », a-t-il indiqué.
Occasion pour lui également de réitérer que la réduction de l’empreinte environnementale passe par des actions tangibles au sein de l’entreprise. « Ensemble nous pouvons être des acteurs du changement. Engageons-nous à travailler de concert pour mettre en place des actions concrètes de réductions des déchets au sein de l’aéroport. C’est notre responsabilité envers les générations futures et notre contribution à la préservation de notre planète », a déclaré le Directeur Général d’ADL.
Le cap étant fixé, il a annoncé que la journée du 1er décembre 2023 marquera le lancement des activités du projet « Zéro déchet dans la mangrove ». De manière concrète, il s’agira du nettoyage des mangroves qui se trouvent autour de l’Aéroport De Libreville, en collaboration avec l’ONG, LA LIANE.
Un impact dangereux sur l’aéroport
Dans son exposé, Mme Pierra ASSENGONE épse OWONO ASSA, Responsable Environnement Social et Gouvernance est revenue sur la nature et la provenance ainsi que l’impact que causent les déchets qui jonchent la zone aéroportuaire. De manière générale, « ces déchets proviennent des activités humaines, ils peuvent avoir un impact négatif sur l’aéroport, notamment en termes de sécurité, de santé et d’environnement. Ils peuvent également contaminer les sols, les cours d'eau et les écosystèmes environnants s'ils ne sont pas correctement gérés », a-t-elle indiqué.
Au cours de cet exposé, elle n’a pas manqué de relever que « La multiplication des décharges sauvages et la mauvaise gestion des déchets peuvent entraîner des émissions de méthane ou de CO2 qui contribuent au changement climatique. Le risque est également sanitaire. Les déchets non gérés adéquatement peuvent créer des risques de contamination et de propagation de maladies, surtout s'ils attirent des vecteurs de maladies tels que les rats, les moustiques, etc. ».
D’un point de vue opérationnel, a poursuivi la Responsable Environnement Social et Gouvernance, « ces déchets peuvent aussi provoquer des obstructions des voies de circulation, les zones d'embarquement et de débarquement et affecter les opérations aéroportuaires. Ces déversements illégaux induisent un risque aviaire car les ordures attirent les oiseaux, dangereux pour le décollage comme pour l’atterrissage des avions ».
Un objectif commun
Selon l’Aéroport De Libreville, la réduction des déchets constitue un objectif commun, une affaire de tous. En vue de réduire l’impact de ces décharges sur l’aéroport, l’autorité aéroportuaire préconise la mise en place d’un dispositif spécial composé des mesures de prévention, de contrôle et de réhabilitation des sites impactés. Il s’agira ainsi, d’une politique consistant à améliorer la gestion desdits déchets, en incitant les remontées d’informations.
