Vingt ans après le départ de l’opposition et durant toutes ces années, les habitants de Libreville ont assisté à une débâcle à n’en point finir, dans la gestion de la cité.
Après le départ de Paul Mba Abessole, en 2003, de la Mairie de Libreville, la principale ville du pays est retombée dans les mains du pouvoir qui a, depuis lors, renoué avec sa vieille habitude à y à nommer les maires. Même si le slogan « Libreville, ville propre et conviviale » est resté au stade de la bonne intention, la capitale gabonaise, au regard de l’image qu’elle présente, est loin d’avoir rempli sa mission de vitrine du pays. Ce, à la déception de tous.

Le dispositif mis en place par le PDG au pouvoir a eu du mal à s’adapter aux principes élémentaires d’une gestion orthodoxe de la ville. Ces derniers temps ont singulièrement été marqués par de nombreux errements et, surtout, une gabegie à nulle autre pareille. De Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda à Marie Christine Mba Ndutume, en passant par l'ineffable Léandre Zué, la gestion du PDG est marquée par des détournements massifs de fonds, des maires emprisonnés, une insalubrité endémique... et une dette envers la Cnss qui se chiffre en milliards de francs, par exemple.
Les consultations électorales qui s’ouvrent le 26 août prochain permettront de voir si les citoyens choisiront de continuer avec le système actuel, ou bien et changer de décideurs à l'Hôtel de Ville.
Au regard de la situation dans laquelle se trouve Libreville, l'opposition pourrait être la solution. En évitant les erreurs commises par Paul Mba Abessole, un opposant crédible peut certainement redonner des couleurs à la capitale gabonaise. Le ton est déjà donné dans le 5ème arrondissement de Libreville où la liste conjointe REAGIR/Union Nationale, entend redonner son lustre à la ville. Conduite par Michel Ongoundou Loundah, Vice-président de REAGIR, cette liste propose des solutions face à un cadre de vie dégradé par le chômage, la toxicomanie, et entend mener une réflexion en profondeur sur la principale décharge du pays, située à Mindoubé, où l’on enregistre des émanations toxiques, à l’origine de plusieurs maladies.
La tête de liste de l’opposition dénonce également, entre autres, le manque d'entretien des cimetières, l’absence d’eau dans de nombreux quartiers, l'inexistence d'espaces de jeux et de centres d’attraction pour les jeunes.
Michel Ongoundou Loundah, qui n’est pas dans sa première bataille électorale, a été conseiller municipal dans le 1er arrondissement de Franceville en 1996. Il avait, cette année-là, battu le PDG à plate couture, mais l'ex président Omar Bongo était intervenu personnellement pour imposer son vieil ami Marcel Sandoungout à la mairie.
Après Léon Mba élu maire de Libreville, en 1956, Paul Mba Abessole a été le deuxième maire élu par ses collègues en 1997. Le scrutin fut alors remporté par son parti le Rassemblement national des Bûcherons dans quatre arrondissements sur six : le premier, le deuxième, le cinquième et le sixième. L’opposition peut, cette année, être la solution pour redonner à Libreville son lustre d'antan.
